Packrafting the River Lech & Hiking in the Lechtaler Alps18/10/2013
Some while ago a friend and I spent an awesome weekend in Western Austria, hiking and packrafting in the area around the Lechtaler Alps. Since both of us are located in Zurich, Switzerland, it was quite an easy trip to get to St. Anton since there are frequent direct trains:
Friday evening we were starting to climb up to the Kaiserjochhaus where we spent the night and had a great dinner with perfect view over the Lechtaler Alps.
The next day we started at 6 am and headed towards the Simmshütte and Stockach – climbing Lechtaler Alps at its best. In the evening we arrived at Stockach after a relaxed walk and blew up the packrafts. The water was perfect – we camped near the river when the sun set. Be aware of the huge amounts of mosquitos at that time of the year.
We spent the whole sunday packrafting until we reached the town of Weissenbach. Total distance:
Stockach – Häselgehr: 10km
Häselgehr – Stanzach: 10km
Stanzach – Weissenbach: 10km
Be careful when it comes to getting away from Weissenbach – it took us around 6 hours to get back to Zurich sunday night. A short video of the trip can be found below.
